Building Trustable Infrastructure

Codifying Infrastructure was a huge step forward, compared to "just clicking things together in a UI".

We unlocked co-op mode for our colleagues, we got versioning (and sometimes even working roll-backs) and most of all: we could easily deploy hundreds of identical services.

And with that came the problems. Our industry was so focused on the "what can we do" that we lost sight of the "how should we do it?"

In this talk, Kerim want to highlight patterns we've learned over years of codifying infrastructure and explain how a strategy of "defense in depth" can help you harden your infrastructure before even deploying your first service.

Using HashiCorp Terraform as the main vehicle, he will show how you can write code you can trust and what processes you need to consider to limit the blast radius when things, eventually, go wrong.
